Tasks at each phase

Within the offender management process, the case officer carries out a number of specific tasks associated with each prisoner’s plan. The list below shows, in broad terms, which tasks appear in each phase of the process. Procedures are detailed in later parts of this manual.

Note: The role of case officer is an important aspect of the corrections officer position.

Manage offender plan

  • After being assigned, reviews the plan with unit PCO.
  • Communicates elements of the plan to other staff outside the unit.
  • Meets with the prisoner on a regular basis.
  • Writes regular, detailed and relevant file notes
  • Actions any referrals.
  • Facilitates special meetings.
  • Obtains feedback from other staff.
  • Works with prisoner to achieve plan activities and monitor progress.
  • Conducts plan reviews and if required, requests a sentence planner review.

Prepare for release

  • Carries out final or transitional review interview, within required timeframes.
  • Completes review form and offender plan.

Active management

As well as the specific areas mentioned above, all staff are involved at all times in the active management of prisoners.
