Tasks at each phase
Within the offender management process, the function of the sentence planner has a number of specific tasks associated with each prisoner’s plan. The list below shows, in broad terms, which tasks appear in each phase of the process. Procedures are detailed in later parts of this manual.
Receive and induct
May do inductions at some sites.
Post-sentencing assessment
- Reviews information.
- Assesses prisoner.
- Records needs.
Prepare offender plan
- Translates needs into activities.
- Works with the scheduler to draft the plan.
- Obtains PCO sentence planning approval of plan.
- Agrees the plan with the prisoner.
- Finalises the plan.
Manage offender plan
As required:
- reviews the plan
- works with the scheduler to modify plan.
Prepare for release
- Assesses the prisoner (pre-release planning including residential restrictions) and writes parole assessment reports.
- Liaises with CPPS in the preparation of the parole assessment report and pre-parole liaison.
- Interviews prisoner and signs-off the report.
