PPM reference

It is assumed that when you carry out this task you will already be familiar with:

  • PPM B.14: Prisoners At Risk To Themselves
  • PPM C.01: Prisoner Admission, Policy and Performance Standards
  • PPM A.12: Application for Cancellation of a Sentence of Imprisonment and Substitution of Home Detention (National Procedure)

Who does it

The staff of the Custodial Support Unit, referring to the SCO or PCO of the Receiving Unit, places the prisoner into a Unit or Wing.

When you do it

You take the prisoner from the Receiving Office and place them into a Unit or Wing after they have been received and assessed by the Receiving Officer.

See: Chapter 2-1 Receive and Assess Prisoner.

What you do

The steps involved in placing a prisoner are summarised below.

  1. Confirm the prisoner’s identity with the Receiving Officer.
  2. Be sure you:
    • have the correct paper work, and
    • know which area the prisoner has been allocated to (by the Principal or Senior Corrections Officer).
  3. Identify any safety, security or personal concerns – e.g. do they need to be segregated?
  4. Escort the prisoner to the Unit/Wing.
  5. Pass paper work to the PCO or SCO of the custodial unit.
