This part sets out the procedures for receiving and inducting a prisoner.

In most cases the procedures set out in this part are a checklist of what happens, and when. Further detail may be found in the Policy and Procedures Manual (PPM). Where appropriate, these documents are referenced.
Pre-reception information and / or the prisoner’s presenting behaviour could immediately indicate that the prisoner will meet the criteria for the Functional Support category. In such cases, individualised management strategies may be required immediately following the prisoner’s reception to prison. Consult with the health team to ensure a preliminary support plan is formulated.
Health staff will normally develop such strategies in the course of the reception health assessment.
This preliminary plan will later become the starting point for the development of a full support plan.
