Introduction

There are five categories of prisoner:

  1. remand
  2. short serving
  3. maintenance
  4. intervention
  5. functional support

Procedure

Follow these steps to determine the prisoner's category.

  1. For all prisoners other than remand, determine the prisoner's risk of re-conviction and re-imprisonment (RoC*RoI) level using the RoC*RoI tool on IOMS.

    See: “Category override” later in this chapter for guidelines for determining whether an override is required.
  2. Use the table below to determine the prisoner’s category.
To determine if then check
remand
  • if the prisoner is a remand prisoner, and
  • the time spent on remand is longer than 8 weeks.

Note: Assessments need not be completed if time on remand is less than 8 weeks.

short serving

If time to serve is less than 26 weeks from SCD.

maintenance
  • if RoC*RoI level is “low”, and
  • if time to serve is longer than 26 weeks.
intervention
  • if RoC*RoI level is “high”, and
  • if time to serve is longer than 26 weeks.
functional support
