Health Screening Standard
- All sentenced prisoners are to be screened to determine whether they have any health pre-conditions that would restrict the physical activities they engage in (SMP.3.F5 and A.18.01.F1).
- All Remand prisoners are to complete the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (A.18.01.F1 - PAR-Q) before participating in any physical activity.
Health Screening
- Medical screening will be carried out in accordance with PPM Section "B.06 Prisoner Health" standards. A full health assessment of an prisoner is completed within 24 hours of receiving the prisoner into a Prison.
- The Case Officer assigned to the prisoner will provide the prisoner with a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (A.18.01.F1 - PAR-Q) and Physical Activity Application Form (A.18.01.F2). Prisoners are to complete these document as part of the initial Unit reception if they wish to participate in any physical activity.
- Upon receipt of the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and Physical Activity Application Form (A.18.01.F2), the Case Officer will examine the completed Health Information to Unit Staff / Sentence Planners (SMP.3 F5) for sentenced prisoners and complete the relevant sections of the PAR-Q form.
- The prisoner acknowledges on the PAR-Q Form and Physical Activity Application Form that they understand the health screening results (sentenced prisoners), and know that they engage in physical activity at their own risk.
- If the prisoner answers "yes" to any questions on the PAR-Q form, the prisoner must be informed that they are not to participate in any strenuous physical activity and do so at their own risk.
- The completed Physical Activity Application Form, PAR-Q Form and Health Information to Unit Staff / Sentence Planners Form is forwarded to the prisoners Unit Manager for approval.
- All prisoners will be reassessed as to their suitability to participate in physical activity if they report any health problems during exercise, or if health staff consider it necessary.
