Procedure Standards

  1. All chemicals and Cleaning Agents are stored in containers of original packaging where practicable.
  2. All containers are correctly labelled to identify their contents.
  3. Where original containers are not used, the containers must be appropriate to hold the contents.
  4. Where the original containers are not used, then all containers will be correctly labelled to accurately identify the contents.
  5. All manufacturers’ instructions are kept in a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) folder in accordance with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.
  6. All manufacturers’ guidelines in relation to handling and storage will be followed.
  7. Redundant containers are returned to Stores.
  8. All restricted substances are kept locked in a designated cupboard.
  9. Chemicals and / or Cleaning Agents are not mixed or stored with food products.
  10. CIE will be responsible for the safe storing of all chemicals and cleaning agents related to their industries.
  11. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is identified, supplied and worn as per the MSDS sheet.
  12. Chemical spills are notified to the appropriate parties i.e.Prison Manager, Health Manager, Manager responsible for each area.
  13. Chemical spills are dealt with as per PPM E.04. Hazard Management and E.02 Emergency Plan.
