Procedure Standard
Visitors are accounted for at all times.
Definitions
- Visitor (processing) Centre means the building or part of a building outside the perimeter fence where visitors are processed prior to entry into the facility.
- Visit Area/Room means the building or part of a building within the perimeter where the visitor meets with the prisoner under CSU supervision.
Procedure
- Identity of all visitors is confirmed at entry to and departure from the facility.
- Only approved visitors are allowed access to the facility.
- Prisoner visitors are approved in advance and recorded on the Expected Visitors List in IOMS.
- Unscheduled visits may be approved by the responsible staff at time of visit and notified to the Unit Manager and Prison Manager.
- When approving unscheduled visits, the responsible staff may consider the following circumstances:
- Distance visitor has travelled
- First visitor to prisoner
- Any prior unscheduled visitors
- Relationship to prisoner
- Visitors are informed of the visitor and OSH requirements prior to entry.
- Visitors sign the Kalamazoo (or equivalent) book and retain their slip during the visit.
- Visitors and their possessions are searched for unauthorised items in accordance with B.12.
- Visitors who are not given approval for a visit are refused entry.
- IOMS is updated at time of the visitor’s entry and at time of the visitor’s departure.
- Statutory and specified visitors are escorted as required.
- Specified Visitors should be asked to produce their Identification Cards. If the card cannot be produced an alternative form of identification must be produced and the name checked against the List of Approved Specified Visitors.
