Requirements
Procedure Standards
- A register of unclaimed property is maintained on the Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS).
- Unclaimed property is referred to the Receiving Officer.
- Property remaining unclaimed five days after its receipt is officially deemed unclaimed.
- A label is attached to the property indicating the date it is deemed as unclaimed. This will require a manual label to be prepared (i.e. they are not produced by IOMS).
- A full description of the unclaimed property items should be recorded in the Property Register as per the requirements specified in B11.01.R1.
- The unclaimed property is securely stored apart from other property in designated unclaimed property containers.
- Enquiries are made as necessary to identify the owner of the property.
- Unclaimed property is disposed of according to requirement.

Prison Manager
- Authorise disposal of property.
People finding property
- Refer all unclaimed property to the Receiving Office.
Receiving Office Staff/Property Officer
- Maintain Unclaimed Property Register on IOMS.
- Arrange storage of unclaimed property separate from other property.
- Undertake enquiries as necessary to identify the owner of the property.
- Property remaining unclaimed five days after its receipt is deemed unclaimed.
- Dispose of unclaimed property in accordance with procedures for disposal of exhibits B.12.03.R2.
