Notices
Notices must be prominently displayed at the reception area or areas advising persons entering the prison that:
- They must not take unauthorised items into the prison (outlining the definition of unauthorised items in section 141 of the Corrections Act 2004);
- They must not take prohibited items specified in the notice into the prison.
- They, their possessions or their vehicle may be searched;
- If they refuse to consent to a search before being admitted to the prison if requested to do so, then they will be refused entry;
- Detector dogs or devices such as metal detectors may be employed to assist in any search;
- They may be arrested if an unauthorised item is found on their person, in their possessions or in their vehicle;
- They may be detained for the purpose of notifying police to attend under section 103 of the Corrections Act 2004 for a period not exceeding 4 hours if there are reasonable grounds to suspect (whether as a consequence of a search under sections 99 to 101 of the CA 2004, or otherwise) that they are in possession of a controlled drug within the meaning of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975.
