Searching equipment

  1. Searching equipment must be readily available to all prison staff to use.
  2. The Prison Manager approves the location of searching kits to ensure they are easily accessible to staff.
  3. The Prison Manager ensures that searching kits are properly maintained and stocked.

Searching equipment MUST include

Search Equipment must include:

  1. Latex Gloves;
  2. Containers for syringes and needles;
  3. Plumbing mirrors (a mirror on an extended handle for tight or low areas);
  4. Exhibit forms; and
  5. Exhibit bags.

Searching equipment MAY include

Search Equipment may include:

  1. An instant camera;
  2. A torch;
  3. A hand-held mirror on a handle for strip searches. No mirror is to be installed permanently on the floor in an area where strip searches are conducted.
  4. Overalls;
  5. Hand-held metal detectors; and
  6. A walk-through scanner (Archway Metal Detector).
