Searching prison facilities
- A prison facility search is where any part of a prison, excluding a prisoner’s cell or an area set aside for the exclusive use of any person other than a prisoner (e.g. a staff member’s locker), is searched for an unauthorised item, or for the purposes of security of the prison.
- A prison facility can include areas such as gymnasiums, programme facilities, exercise yards, prisoner employment areas, and any other area where prisoners have access.
- Searching of prison facilities must be included in the local search reporting requirements that is signed-off by the Regional Manager.
Reporting and recording
- The result of a facility search is recorded in the Search Book and in IOMS.
