Procedure Standard

 • A prisoner's release is planned and the correct people informed

Requirements

  • R1 Prior notification of a prisoner's release
  • R2 Completing a Release Licence
  • R3 Release documentation

Procedure

  1. Two months prior to a prisoner's release, their file is checked to identify people or organisations who are to be notified of their release according to requirement.
  2. The Release Planning Checklist (C04.01.F7) is completed.
  3. At the appropriate time the correct person or organisation is informed according to the completed checklist.
  4. The prisoner's file is obtained, the release date is verified, and checklist confirmed.
  5. The release documentation, trust / earnings, Steps to Freedom and travel arrangements, where required, are accurately completed.
  6. The release documentation and prisoner's property is checked to ensure that it is correct and ready for signature.
  7. The file is referred to the Prison Manager (or delegate) for signature.

Key Roles and Responsibilities


Prison Manager
  • Sign release papers.
Unit Manager
  1. Confirm release date.
  2. Confirm release planning checklist completed.
  3. Check release documentation.
Administration
  • Prepare release documentation.
