Procedure Standard

  • Work projects in the community are negotiated with the sponsor, finalised, and evaluated on completion.

Requirement

  • R1 Community Projects

Procedure

  1. A request for a community project is received and referred to the project co-ordinator.
  2. A Project Manager is appointed to evaluate the proposed project.
  3. The sponsor is contacted and the proposed project evaluated using the Community Project Assessment form (E.15.01.F1).
  4. A recommendation on whether the project should progress and any options is made to the Project Coordinator.
  5. The proposed project is discussed with appropriate local Community Probation Service Manager.
  6. The project is either approved or declined.
  7. If approved the Project Manager negotiates and finalises the community project agreement with the community sponsor on the Community Project Agreement form (E.15.01.F2).
  8. The Project Manager selects prisoners to undertake the project.
  9. The project workplace is evaluated using the Community Project Hazard Identification form (E.15.01.F4) prior to any work commencing.
  10. The Work Party Officer is advised of the location and specifications of the project, given a copy of the agreement, and a work party assigned.
  11. The project commences and progress is monitored using the Community Project Evaluation form (E.15.01.F3).
  12. On the project's completion it is evaluated using the Community Project Evaluation form (E.15.01.F3).

Key Roles and Responsibilities


Prison Manager
  • Appoint community work project co-ordinator.
Community Work Project Co-ordinator
  1. Appoint Project Manager.
  2. Discuss proposed project with appropriate local Community Probation Service Manager.
  3. Approve / decline project.
  4. Advise sponsor of decision.
  5. Identify work hazards using the Hazard Identification form (E.15.01.F4).
Community Work Project Manager
  1. Contact sponsor to evaluate project.
  2. Negotiate and finalise projects with sponsor.
  3. Advise Work Party Officer.
  4. Select prisoners for work project.
  5. Complete and evaluate project (E.15.01.F3).
