Board Payments

  • Board payments are charged on the basis of 30% of the net income (excluding overtime) with a maximum of $250 per week.

Weekly Expenses

The Prison Manager determines a reasonable sum of money for the prisoner’s weekly expenses incidental to the employment, however:

  • This may not exceed 20% of the prisoner's net wages per week without National Office approval.
  • Expenses covered are for fares, meals etc.
  • Where no fares are involved the sum may not exceed 14% of the net wage per week.
  • Any advance approved from the Welfare Fund to cover such expenses until the prisoner's first wages are received, is promptly recovered.
  • Regional Finance Manager determines the method and frequency of payment

Expenditure from Expected First Weeks Wages

  • The Prison Manager may authorise expenditure of up to 75% of the prisoner's expected first week's wages on items needed by the prisoner for release-to-work.
