Procedure Standards
- To ensure that each prisoner received into ACRP, (and subsequently as required), is provided with, or can access and understand all required information about:
- How his order (Court imposed remand period) or sentence will be managed.
- General information (including rules and routines, conduct, transfers).
- Legal information concerning the prisoner’s order or sentence.
- Requests, concerns and rights of the prisoner, his family/whanau, friends and advisors.
- To provide each prisoner with information, or the ability to access information, in a timely and understandable way concerning his situation that promotes informed decision-making and personal responsibility in the prisoner.

Procedure
- Immediate needs checklist completed with prisoner on reception into ACRP. Prisoner provided “Living in ACRP” Induction handbook and copy of “Marking Time” or “First Days” for remand and sentenced prisoners respectively.
- The induction interview will be carried out in respective accommodation units by designated Corrections Officer.
- Prisoners are able to access relevant information at anytime during their placement at ACRP, including regular viewing access to the “First Days” Induction video.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
Assessors:
- Complete, with prisoner, Immediate Needs Checklist (A.06.01.F1 – IOMS), together with New Arrival Risk Assessment (B.14.01.F1 – IOMS) and Vulnerability Assessment Form – (hardcopy local form).
- On reception:
- provide copy of “Living in ACRP” Induction Handbook to all prisoners.
- provide copy of “Marking Time” to all remand prisoners.
- provide copy of “First Days” to all sentenced prisoners.
- Provide prisoner opportunity to make (free) telephone call
- Complete Form B.20.01.F1 (Part A) where prisoner seeks Voluntary Segregation
- Make any necessary referrals.
Corrections Officers:
- Facilitate inductions for newly received prisoners within the unit, as per Induction Interview (A.06.01.F2 – IOMS).
- Provide relevant information as requested by prisoners during their placement at ACRP, including regular viewing access to the “First Days” Induction video.
- Provide information on Parole and Home detention to sentenced prisoners (Form A.06.01.F3)
- Advise prisoners who are citizens of another country they may inform their Consular Representatives (Form A.06.01.F4)
- Advise prisoners they may contact Work and Income and provide form to facilitate.
- Make any necessary referrals.
