Procedure Standard
- Bedding is hygienic and suitable to climatic conditions.
Procedure
- All bedding issued is the prisoner’s responsibility and he will be held accountable for its use.
- A supply of fire retardant bedding is to be maintained at a level that exceeds the amount required to supply the Prison’s maximum prison population.
- All bedding issued is to be maintained in a state of good repair. Prisoners are not to deface bedding in any way and may be required to pay for bedding willfully damaged by them.
- The following items are considered to be a standard issue to all prisoners accommodated in normal housing units:
- 2 sheets;
- 1 duvet and cover or 2 blankets;
- 1 pillowcase;
- 1 towel.
- Any additional bedding will only be issued on the written instructions of the Health Services Manager
- Upon discharge, bedding is to be laundered for re-issue if in a suitable condition.
- Clean linen is to be issued on a 2xweekly basis
- All bedding is to be replaced on a fair wear and tear basis.
- The Unit Manager is to audit the standard of bedding on a monthly basis and provide a written report to the Prison Manager if required.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
Unit Managers
- Make random but regular checks to ensure that each unit has adequate supplies of bedding and that prisoners are changing bedding regularly.
- Provide a written report on the status of unit bedding for the Prison Manager when requested.
Corrections Officers
- 3 Maintain a level of bedding adequate to supply each prisoner in unit at all times.
- Supply each new prisoner with standard issue of:
- 1 x pillowcase
- 1 x duvet or 2 x blankets
- 1 x duvet cover
- 2 x sheets
- 1 x towel
on entry to unit.
- 5 Arrange collection of bedding to be laundered on selected days.
- Issue in return, one of each item sent for laundering.
- Issue replacement for each towel sent for laundering.
- Ensure that each cell has 1 mattress and 1 pillow.
