  • Internal escorts must comply with WDP guidelines.
  • Rub-down or strip searches must be conducted when prisoners leave or return to their accommodation units. Comply with B.15.01.R5 Prisoner strip search.
  • Identification card (ID) checks must be completed by either CSU staff or accommodation unit staff when unaccompanied prisoners arrive at, and depart from accommodation units and places of activity.
  • ID cards must be issued to all prisoners on departure from the unit (other than accused and youth).
  • Where custodial staff and CIE Instructors are present, ID cards must be collected from prisoners on arrival at the destination.
  • Where custodial staff are not present (Resource Centre, Pua Wananga/Chapel), a prisoner must retain his card and produce it for any custodial officer who requests it.
  • ID cards must be returned to the prisoner when he leaves an area to move to the next area.
  • ID cards must be returned to the Unit staff when prisoners return to their accommodation unit.
  • ID cards must be stored in a secure place at each area
  • Prisoner location checks must be carried out by authorised staff in accordance with G.01.NRCF.02.
  • Permission slips must be issued for any free movement where:
    • a custodial staff member will not be present at the destination (i.e. Pua Wananga/chapel, Resource Centre)
    • the movement could not be scheduled in advance (e.g. police interview, non-life-threatening injury or illness)
  • The designated hand-over point for CIE external employment is the Gatehouse
  • External CIE hand-overs will be completed and signed out by Gatehouse staff
