Formal Complaints

Members of the public wanting to make a complaint about Corrections should email complaints@corrections.govt.nz or write to Private Box 1206, Wellington, New Zealand.

Registered victims (those recorded on the Victim Notification Register) should write directly to the Chief Executive of Corrections. The National Coordinator VNR will acknowledge complaints and then refer them to the service(s) concerned for investigation.

Offenders can make complaints in confidence to staff, an inspector, or to external agencies such as the Ombudsman, the Privacy Commissioner, or to the Health and Disabilities Commisioner. All prisons have access to confidential mail and free-phone facilities for complaints. For more information  read the offender complaints information sheet .
