Service Managers lead a professional team of Probation Officers and support staff responsible for managing offenders serving sentences and orders in the community.

Key focus
Service managers in Community Probation & Psychological Services (CPPS) are responsible for a team of field staff. Their focus is to reduce re-offending by managing their team to ensure:

  • quality management of community-based sentences, and
  • the efficient provision of information to courts and the New Zealand Parole Board.

Key roles
Service managers are, among other things, required to:

  • manage a team of staff, including probation officers, community work supervisors and support staff
  • develop and deliver on service plans that reflect the Department’s strategic focus
  • ensure external reporting requirements are met
  • manage and enhance working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including:
    – New Zealand Parole Board
    – judges and court managers
    – Iwi.
