The day to day management of Mt Eden Corrections Facility (MECF) is carried out by global service provision company Serco under contract to the Department of Corrections. The buildings and land at MECF are still owned and maintained by Corrections, and the prisoners remain the ultimate responsibility of Corrections’ Chief Executive.
As part of its contract, Serco is required to report on its performance against measures set by Corrections.
The contract measurement period began in August 2011 and the figures are cumulative. This means the latest figures include all the earlier figures, as they are added together.
The performance results are broken down as follows:
Serco is required to immediately launch an investigation into any serious incidents or breaches of security at MECF and provide a full report to Corrections. After considering the incident report and any explanation and extenuating circumstances, a specific deduction can be made from Serco’s management fees as a penalty.
