Access to money
All people in prison have a trust account, which they can use to buy approved grocery items on a weekly basis.
Trust accounts are limited to a maximum of $200 and prisoners cannot spend more than $70 per week.
How to deposit money
Family or friends can deposit money into a prisoner’s trust account.
Deposits can be made by posting a cheque made out to the prisoner, the prison, or by depositing a cheque, cash or a money order while visiting. Once cheques are cleared they can be spent.
Electronic deposits can also be made if they are arranged in advance by calling the prison and talking to the prison trust clerk.
Cash cannot be sent to prisoners.
