Since 2018, the Department of Corrections has been undertaking a Holidays Act Compliance work programme. This follows a review completed by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment that clarified how the Act should be interpreted and applied, resulting in many organisations needing to re-assess whether they had been paying minimum holiday entitlements correctly.

We have identified our compliance issues and the required actions to remedy them. We made changes to our payroll system in November 2018 to ensure that we are now compliant with the Holidays Act.

It’s incredibly important to us that we pay our people correctly, so we’ve been working hard to identify whether our staff have been underpaid, and if so, by how much. As a result of this work, we have identified former staff that may be entitled to remediation payments.

If you (or a person you are acting on behalf of) were employed by the Department of Corrections between April 2009 and November 2019, you may be eligible for a remediation review.
