Legal aid

Legal aid is available to help people who can’t afford a lawyer. People who get legal aid may have to repay part or all of their legal aid costs.

Find out more information on legal aid:

  • visit the Ministry of Justice website
  • call the Ministry of Justice on 0800 600 090 or (04) 472 1500 on weekdays between 7.30am to 6.30pm
  • see a lawyer and discuss legal aid with them.
