Victim Support
Manaaki Tāngata|Victim Support is a non-government organisation that provides 24 hour support, advocacy and information to people affected by crime and trauma , including family and witnesses.
Victim Support acts as an advocate for victims' rights and works closely with Police in assisting victims. Victim Support workers can also help eligible victims apply to receive information about the offender.
The service is free, confidential and available even if the a crime is not reported to the Police.
Victim Support can help with
- Emotional support - They listen without judgement, and support you to identify ways to cope.
- Practical assistance - They work with you to develop a support plan, access financial assistance if you’re eligible, link you with community resources, and advocate on your behalf.
- Information - They help you understand your rights, what happens next, how to access resources and support you to make informed choices.
- Criminal justice/coronial process support - They help you feel informed, prepared and supported through the justice system, including court attendance costs, if eligible.
- Referrals - They will connect you with other support services and counselling, when appropriate.
