Information for the media

All media queries and interview requests should be directed to the Corrections Media Team. The team can be contacted at:

Email: media@corrections.govt.nz

Phone: (04) 460 3365

The team operates between 8am and 5pm Monday – Friday. We will do our best to assist with after hours questions but it is not always possible to provide information or spokespeople outside of business hours, particularly in response to specialised requests (e.g. requests for data or non-operational focused requests).

Media queries, and information released to media, is done so in accordance with our legislative obligations under the Official Information Act 1982 and the Privacy Act 2020.

Requests to interview prisoners

  • the nature and purpose of your request
  • the focus of your questions in as much detail as possible
  • if you would like to carry out the interview in person, over the phone, or via AVL
  • how the interview would be recorded (written notes, filmed, etc)
  • how the information or images you gather would be used
  • who would be coming to the prison on the day/present during the interview
