4.1 Sentence Length

The most common sentence lengths imposed on inmates were between one and two years. Males tended to have longer sentences than females. For male inmates, 26 percent were serving determinate sentences of more than five years, compared to 12.6 percent for females. Sentences of life imprisonment were being served by 6.2 percent of inmates.
