Remand and sentenced snapshot

Quarterly prison statistics for each prison and breakdowns of the prison population are shown below. We are making changes to this section to add more detailed reporting on ethnicities to the quarterly data we proactively publish in future.

Remand and sentenced throughput

Prison remand and sentenced throughput data can be viewed, filtered and downloaded from the Statistics New Zealand website:

1. Annual sentenced prison throughput:
   1. The number of prison sentences started each year.
2. Annual remand prison throughput:
   1. The number of remand periods ending each year.

Data can be broken down by Lead Offence, Gender, Ethnicity, Imposed length, and Age group.
