When a prisoner changes their appearance significantly, their IOMS identity photograph must be updated.
W.06.02 Hair tools
All general managers custodial must ensure that tools for maintaining haircuts and grooming or removing facial hair are available to every prisoner as far as reasonably practicable.
Hair tools are to be managed by prison staff with consideration to:
available resources
safety and security.
Every prisoner should maintain their hair in a clean condition.
W.06.03 Hair tool register
Prison units must have all hair tools (and accessories) recorded in a register.
All instances of hair tool use must be recorded in the register, detailing:
What tools are issued.
Who the tools are issued to.
The time of issue and time of return.
The name of staff supervising (if required).
Confirmation all tools and accessories have been returned, cleaned and are in good working order.
Damaged or missing tools or accessories are recorded in the register.
Replacement of hair tools is raised by staff with the PCO to action in a timely manner.
W.06.04 Hair Tool audit
Monthly audits of unit hair tools and the hair tool register is to be completed by the PCO.
The PCO must sign and note audit completion in the register.
Key audit points on the management of hair tools are to be discussed with staff.
Monthly audit results are provided to the manager for review.
